Last month, I was watching the weather channel looking to see what was in the forecast. While it was snowing in our region, the meteorologist was talking about rain in the southwest and she brought up how much water they don't have there. In light of current droughts and our extreme water usage, water tables are very low and we face the possibility of running out of water in the future, a problem we heard about quite a bit last summer in the south. Here in Minnesota, we are very fortunate to have an abundant supply of water. The future is unpredictable, though, and there may come a time when we may not have enough water either. What can we do today to help preserve our water sources? At home, at work, and at play? As for my 2008 resolution? Use less water and recycle as much as possible. We’ve only just begun this new year, but I have already worked to accomplish my resolution, and it hasn’t required a great deal of extra money or energy.

At Sargent’s, we are working to help our environment. Reduce, Reuse, and Recycle has been the mantra ingrained in all of us for many years. As a company, we are working towards that daily. In 2006, a state-wide nursery pot recycling program was established allowing you to bring in all your pots in for recycling. The recycler turns used plastic pots into other items, though they do request you turn in only clean pots. From recycling plastic to paper, we are all working toward greener practices.
