As my garden is really coming on with tomatoes, it’s time to head off on vacation. I seem to recall that is why my mom stopped vegetable gardening when I was younger. Every time it was time to go camping, everything in the garden was ready to be canned. Tomatoes, carrots, beans, and all the other staples for the winter were just looking at my mom saying, “Ha! Ha! I’m ready to be canned, so you can’t go camping!” Well, my mom put a stop to those vegetables, because she loved camping too much! Now as I prepare for a wedding in Oregon, I’m looking at my tomatoes thinking similar things. However, I will still be planting veggies next year and the year after. My friends will be sharing in the bounty a little extra this week, while they pick what is ready to go.
As for me, I’ll be taking in the sights and sounds of nature around Bend, Oregon where it seems every area is a National Park area. My trips usually contain hiking, and I’m anxious to do a lot in this beautiful area! Of course, I’ll also be making a few trips to local garden centers. It is always great to look around at other centers for ideas and plants.
Until next time, happy gardening!
