The blessing of snow has certainly increased my bird enjoyment this winter! Speaking of enjoying the birds, I’m off to fill the feeders. Scarf, boots, and gloves are on and I am heading out the door to help my feathered friends. Birds are so interesting to watch throughout the year, especially in winter. Colored feathers are so much brighter, even the gray on the nuthatches brightens my day. The blue jays and cardinals are so striking against the white backdrop of snow. There is something so relaxing to me about just watching the birds. Sometimes it brings a great deal of stress, though. For instance, just the other day, I was conversing with a friend and interrupted her to say, “Ooh! Look at the cardinal in the feeder!” Next is the comment of, “You know you’re getting old when you talk about the birds!” Years ago, I always thought it was a sign of being old, but since I now enjoy the birds so much, I have to come up with an excuse. My thought is to enjoy the birds while I’m young and when I’m older. From chickadees, nuthatch, and woodpeckers, they are all welcome in my yard! This spring chicken enjoys watching the birds frolic and play! My mom is also a bird lover. After Christmas every year, she places her Christmas tree outside on her deck. The lights stay on and we add popcorn strings to it. The birds hang out there all day long. On some lucky days when I’m over I will see five pairs of cardinals and a few deer in the background. A beautiful sight! All due to Mother Nature and our Creator.
As you are out and about shopping this week, don’t forget to pick up some birdfeed for your feeders. I hope you enjoy as much as I!
