Outhouse Garden

I think I can say with certainty that I am one of the few who has an old outhouse in my yard. Our farm has been around for many years, in fact my husband's grandmother lived there for over 50 years. With that history comes an old outhouse that I am able to incorporate into my landscaping. The garden has changed over the years, and each year it matures and gets better. The peonies, dephiniums, hydrangeas, hostas and roses are all flourishing near it. The hybrid tea roses wintered over wonderfully and have numerous blooms already this season. The pink and yellow shout out at us while we dine on our porch. The birds chirping overhead add to the atmosphere, making it an excellent place to relax during a long day.

The containers are growing very well, and I've added many more than previous years. My job working with plants every day is a blessing and a curse! It's hard to survive a day at work without thinking, "I need one of those at my house!" So I've overloaded the patio and garden with flowers galore! In addition to the succulents, banana plant and other containers, I've added a Gardenia! Every time I walked by it in the greenhouse, I heard it call my name. After a week, I couldn't not take it home and put it in our three season porch, where it fills the room with its' amazing fragrance! A winner in my book. My most used herbs also have made an appearance near my kitchen including basil, rosemary and parsley. Lemon Verbena also makes an appearance, because I frequently use it in my water to create a lemon water. The taste is refreshing.
