Combination Crazy
Now that the May rush has subsided in the garden center, I am able to focus my attention on my own garden! I love gardening with all of you, but there is a definite joy when it comes time to plant my garden and containers. Throughout the spring, I’m consulting with many gardeners and get to compare so many plants that when the time comes I’m overwhelmed with all of the options.
This season, I am particularly happy to report some of my planter combinations. In my purple pot, I’ve chosen to put a large banana plant with a couple New Guinea impatiens. My succulent collection is going together nicely, with a some cool options, including ‘Cobweb Buttons’ hens and chicks. This perennial has webbing that forms over the leaves. Truly a neat plant and great conversation piece! In my largest container I have combined ‘Diamond Frost’ Euphorbia, ‘Lavender’ Verbena and a bellflower vine that will grow up the trellis.
My husband and I have a new patio set, so it has been even more fun to plant up containers to complete our outdoor living space. I’ve also managed to fill other containers with nemesia, petunias and other flowers that will attract hummingbirds. We love watching them while we take in a lazy evening.
The Weber grill we added this spring also adds to our patio. We’re grilling things like crazy and are very happy with it. I went all out and got the cover, too, so we always have a clean grill. There are a lot of grills out there, be sure to check out the selection at 2nd Street for great Weber options.
As for the vegetable garden, it is starting to take shape and in the next few days, everything will be in. My focus this year is on cucumbers and tomatoes, while also adding pak choy. I always add a few new things in the veggie garden and pak choy is it this year. I’m sure I will find a few other things, too - I’m a gardener at heart!
