Garden Surprises!

Last night, I walked around the vine patch and was surprised to see so many gourds, pumpkins and squash. The gourds are so exciting to find, because each one is unique and offers a twist to my fall decorating. And with a little imagination, one of the gourd varieties looks like a starship. Now, I am not a huge fan of Star Trek, but I’d say my garden has taken an orbit into space with how interesting those gourds are. Stop into Sargent’s North, we have many of these unique gourds available for sale. For those of you who have not experienced growing pumpkins and other vines, it truly is easy. There is a small amount of weeding in the beginning, but trust me when I say it is minor compared to growing carrots or beets! The vines grow at an exploding speed that they soon cover up the soil and just keep growing all summer. Around mid-September, the vines begin to yellow and die back. At that time, a gardener is able to safely walk through the vines and behold the treasures of the vines! Walking through the garden, I collected many beautiful gourds and mini pumpkins, and this weekend I am anxious to harvest my Indian corn and other fruits of my labor. They will make such excellent decorations on our patio table and our dinner table.

Mums are such a beautiful fall flower, too, and over the weekend, they graced the church as I walked down the aisle. My husband and I were married on Saturday and we were blessed with a beautiful weekend to get married! There were mums of all colors, and the weather exemplified their beauty!
