Wendy's Garden Blog
December 8, 2008
As I leaf through the current Northern Gardener, there are numerous beautiful pictures to look at, and the magazine has information on plants and gardening, as well. In terms of gardening magazines, it is one of my favorites. The content is great, and it is published by the Minnesota State Horticultural Society, which means it is pertinent information to our local gardeners. The November/December issue has the best cover for the winter ahead. A lone bird is sitting atop an older picket fence. After a stop this evening for bird feed and filling the feeder, the birds feeding at the neighbors will hopefully take a detour over to my feeders, where they can also choose to sit on an old wooden fence. Those beautiful birds can make anyone feel young at heart. With their playful actions and carefree attitudes, it’s no wonder why I like to watch them. Not to mention the bright colors they bring to the yard, especially in the winter months. Those blues and reds especially wake up my eyes in the morning and keep me attentive all day looking out the window at the feeders. As I am curled up on the couch being lazy, I give myself some credit for working as a “watch cat”, as someone has to keep the cat entertained in the house, so he doesn’t go outside hunting. For those birds are mine and the cat will have to be satisfied with cat food!
