Recently in the garden, I’ve planted basil, tomatoes, onions, potatoes, and several other goodies! Another area is soon to yield lettuce, radishes, and green onions. My large lilac is blooming next to my garden shed, and my yard is the most fragrant it has ever been! Lavender blossoms also make a great centerpiece on my dining room and kitchen tables. Of course, a select few friends and family also have received floral arrangements for their homes. Many other lilacs in the area are blooming white, lavender and a variety of other colors. Over the last week, I’ve also planted a Dwarf Korean Lilac Tree in front of my living room window. They are one of my most favorite trees. A ‘lollipop’ tree, as I call them, will be a great showcase as I look out the window and a fragrant delight!
Additionally in my garden….chickens! In my younger days, I grew up on a farm in southeast Minnesota, and I sure enjoy continuing to live on those roots as a “farm girl,” though I’ve become a city-farm girl. Several hens and a rooster are now perusing my garden looking for insects and other delicious items. As long as they stay away from my tomatoes and basil, I will be a happy girl! It sure is fun having them run around the yard. Makes me feel just as free spirited as them — just running around enjoying life. That’s my motto. Live life today, because you don’t know about tomorrow.
Enjoy today, the gift you’ve been given!
