In the last week, I have officially declared something I have never done. “I am ready for spring!” My yard has snowdrifts galore, and the snow is an excellent backdrop for all the cardinals enjoying my birdfeeders. Reading, baking, and just being indoors are my favorite things in the winter months. Winter has always been a special time of enjoyment for me.
But, I am now ready! Ready for fresh tomatoes and basil out of the garden — my taste buds can't get them out of my mind. Last year, a friend shared with me a recipe for Tomato Basil Open Faced Sandwiches that is so delicious and super easy! Once you try it, you will be eating them as a mainstay all summer long. At the garden center, preparing for spring is in full swing and new items are coming in daily. New products and plants are always great signs of spring, but the best part are the smiling faces on customers, who are anxious to brighten up their garden.
Friends share with me how much they like to see the grass green up in spring. It’s that fresh start or the renewing period of spring that is enjoyed by so many, and I am truly grateful we have the winter, in order for us to have spring.
Hopefully that fresh start greets us quickly. Until then, I will be starting a few seeds indoors this year to get a few things going, plus it’s fun to see how fast those tiny seeds grow.
