Happy New Year!

After a great holiday season of giving gifts from the garden, I have learned I need a bigger garden. I gave several gift baskets filled with homemade goodies, including canned beets, salsa, and stewed tomatoes. After wrapping, I came to a conclusion. Bigger garden! My beet supply has dwindled to only two jars remaining. My co-worker, Steve just reported to me that they are the best beets he’s ever had! That makes my day, and it makes me think I could make millions canning beets. Okay, I won’t quit my day job just yet. But I will plant more beets next year.

 Last night, we took the Christmas tree down. I love the glow of the lights on the tree and was looking forward to one more night. However, the needles were looking a little too dry for our comfort levels. For now, it’s time to fill the kitchen table with more fresh flowers. Six years ago, my mom gave me a Snowman container filled with flowers. Now every January, I have it filled with flowers. They are gorgeous and help to pass the winter a bit faster. The winter has been chilly, and I think we’re in for a good one. So I’m buried deep in winter reading. Gardening books and magazines are at the top along with some non-fiction.Winter is a great time for reading.
