Color! Color! Color!

Gardens are bursting with color this time of year. In our rain garden at the north store, the black eyed susans are just jumping out of their buds to show off their outstanding gold color! Hydrangeas are continuing to peak out and show their whites, blues, and pinks. My mom is so excited…her Endless Summer just started blooming about 2 weeks ago, and it is gorgeous. She has been pretty disappointed that it didn’t bloom earlier but now she has forgotten about that already. Sedum are in bud stage showing a little bit of color. Soon enough they will be all different shades of pinks and reds. Snapdragons, marigolds, zinnias, and cosmos are continuing to fill my vase for my dining room table. Yellow and orange marigold blossoms have almost been wiped out; my friends’ boys picked birthday flowers! They were having such a great time in the garden-I couldn’t tell them to stop. The foliage on my hosta are looking great, too. It makes great greens for the arrangements. Speaking of foliage, my coral bells are also looking good. The leaves are such a pretty burgundy color. Contrasts nicely with the dark green in my garden. If your hosta leaves are filled with holes, stop in and pick up a bottle of Slug Magic, which is safe for pets. It will stop the slugs, and it is cleaner than beer. (Beer is an effective slug bait, but you have to empty out the dead ones. Icky!)

Next week…more goodies in the garden. Pesto, tomatoes, zucchini, eggplant, kohlrabi, celery, etc. Time to harvest and prepare everything for a delicious treat in December and January. I’ll be a drying, freezing, and canning fool for the next couple weeks!
