Mother’s Day has formally past, but I believe that every day is really a mother’s day.  This is largely due to the fact that mine’s fantastic!  Sometimes she gets so busy taking care of everyone though she is not able to keep up with watering her own plants.  To help her with this, I like to freshen up her containers with new component plants throughout the summer.

I should admit that I fail to water my hanging baskets sometimes too. In fact, if there is a downfall to container gardening, it is that they need watering daily, sometimes even twice. To alleviate some of the watering, I mix in Soil Moist with my potting soil. It absorbs water and slowly releases it when necessary. Applying a decorative rock, cocoa mulch, or even shells also keeps the soil from drying out so fast.

If you know you are not going to be watering daily, I would suggest planting geraniums. Geraniums offer beautiful color all season, plus they can go without water for a few days. I make sure my mom has lots of them. She likes pink and white, but I perfer ivy geraniums in light lavender.
